Hi, I was installing a critical software update for Windows 10 on my pc when a message appeared saying my computer had been damaged. Now it says it needs to be repaired, but when I try to do an automatic repair, that fails I have tried multiple times.

I have also tried to reset the pc, but it says that the drive where Windows is installed is locked and for me to unlock the drive. Is there a way I can unlock the drive? I also tried to restore my pc to a certain point, but it says no restore points have been created on my computer’s drive which I don’t understand because I’ve restored it before.

And it says I can’t create a restoration point because I’m not online. Or if I can’t avoid losing files, how can I at least get out of this repair loop that won’t let me do anything?

Thank you for mentioning the steps you have tried to resolve the issue, we appreciate your effort. To better assist you, do let us know what exactly is the error message that you receive regarding the locked drive that you mentioned.

Since you have done most of the troubleshooting steps, I would suggest you to try repairing the Boot Configuration Data through the command prompt by following the steps below and check if it helps. Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option screen. Click Advanced options in Troubleshoot screen. Click on command Prompt. If you are unable to boot to the Windows recovery environment, use an installation media:.

On the initial setup screen, enter your language and other preferences, and then select Next. If you’re not seeing the setup screen, your PC might not be set up to boot from a drive. Check your PC manufacturer’s website for info on how to change your PC’s boot order, and then try again.

On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot and continue with the steps provided above. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.

The message about the drive when I tried to reset the pc was this: “The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again.
