I’ve been operating with Windows 7 Pro downgrade option. The computer is past the extended warranty period so I can’t get any help from Dell. It shows with the service tag system configuration that it has the 10 Pro license. Dell’s self help library is not giving me any help. There are no hyperlinks on how to do this. Do I have to do a clean installation which is very difficult with the amount of data and programs.
I’m self employed and have a lot of information stored on this system and my Outlook files are very large. Please help as this will be very disruptive to my business. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.

I actually found a DVD that came with my computer with the Windows 10 Pro and it has a product license key on the outside of the envelope.
My biggest question and concern is when I upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10, will it wipe out all my data and applications? Will this be a clean install wiping out everything on my Dell Inspiron laptop? Outlook is the biggest hassle as I have emails that are no longer on my website host server and I have contacts in cache, several customized signatures etc. The pst files are large for my two folders in Outlook and it is a hassle to back them all up. I’m trying to do that but there is a lot of prep work and have to make room on my external storage device.
Thank you for the detailed information. I regret not doing this when I had the extended warranty with Dell as they would have done it for me. I’ve upgraded systems once before from Win X to Win 7 and I did it without difficulty. But that was many years ago. I have more files to back up on Outlook.
Since I work for myself, all my client correspondence is in this computer and I have to back it all up before I can do any upgrades. I’ve already backed up the documents. The Outlook folders are too large so I have to break them down into smaller files by years. I’m running out of room for backup on my external drive. I’m unable to get the computer to boot from the Windows 10 disk that came up with my Dell Inspiron.
This is not a normal disk. Windows 10 Pro bit. It is not reading the DVD drive with the disk and doesn’t run it. I’ve checked the drive with other disks and the drive is fine and works. Do you have any ideas what I can do?
Do you have any guidance on what to do? To get Win7 upgraded to Win10 you can do in-place upgrade directly to latest version of Win Thank you for your guidance and support. I had already discovered that last night before you wrote back.
I completed the download of the files last night and upgraded to Windows The reds are no longer bright and the white is dingy white. I have a Radeon Graphics card and don’t know whether I can get my old vibrant colors back. I’m a very visual person and this is bothering me a lot.
Also the the computer Backup and Sync is trying to sync “Desktop” but the folder has either been moved or deleted. You can try to fix those colors with display adapter control panel right click on desktop should show that in context menu or use Windows own calibration tool push Win -key and type Calibrate. Hi Susanna, thanks for keeping in touch and thanks for the additional information you’ve shared with me. It is not necessary to make any BIOS configuration changes to be able to upgrade to Windows 10, I know, because I personally updated Windows 7 to Windows 10 at the time using only the update wizard and I did not have to change anything or perform a clean installation.
That’s right, as a precaution, create a Windows 7 boot disk. Your Dell device drivers will be updated at the time of upgrading to Windows 10, to ensure better compatibility, once Windows 10 is installed, update them directly from the Dell website.
Do not worry, all the measures and precautions that we are taking at this time, are so that everything goes correctly when you perform the update to Windows I understand the issue of your external storage space and I hope you can complete your backup completely soon.
I will be waiting for your next response, tell me when you are going to make the update to Windows 10 and what doubts you have before, during and after it.
